Hey friends, Tanya Zucco here. Functional Medicine Practitioner, high performance health consultant, and ambitious woman, just like you guys seriously trying to achieve all, the career or business, the body, the lifestyle, achieving my athletic endeavors, being my best.

So today I wanted to share a story. Five years ago, I had my best race ever at Ironman Wisconsin, which qualified me to compete at the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii, the year after. I was seriously, I was at my peak of fitness, I felt amazing. I know you guys have been there. You know, I felt awesome. And then I decided I wanted to make a career change. I decided I wanted to go out on my own start my own online practice. And in the midst of that was in a cross country move, then COVID, and what seemed like all sorts of life challenges just one thing after the other. And I found myself sort of all of a sudden, although it didn't happen overnight, realizing just how awful I was feeling. I wasn't really doing workouts because I was just always tired and stressed all the time, headaches were a daily occurrence, which is something I'd never dealt with. I felt awful. I mean, I was sleeping bad. I felt frumpy, poofy, bloated all the time. Didn't fit into my running shorts that I'd fit into. Like for my whole life, I definitely didn't feel like going out and getting dressed up and going out in the town or for special occasions. I just felt like I've lost myself my sense of identity, who I was as an active fit woman, and how I usually felt which was always great. Somehow wanting to do it all had turned into really not doing anything.

So anyway, the reason I'm telling you this is I was able to turn things around and regain my fitness, feel fit again, feel confident, have energy to do things be the person I want to be. And really my journey is one of the main reasons that I do the work I do now. But one of the first things that I did, one thing of many, was to navigate my stress to make serious changes to my lifestyle, my nutrition, supplements and deal with my totally out of whack hormones and metabolism and my mindset. And one of the key things that I started to focus on was my sleep. I used to calculate how I could fit more into my day literally. And the thing that went first was my sleep and changing that made such a huge difference and by changing that I mean seven and a half hours, every night, non negotiable, however I needed to plan for that I would do it and I do it now. If it means shortening the workout the next morning or being the I'm going home early person, that's what I did and it's what I do, sleep on its own changed my energy, mood mindset around food hunger, I mean everything. Certainly the foundation and the key thing to do.
