Why would we put toxic chemicals on our skin?

VIDEO TRANSCRIPT

I hope you are having an amazing day. So hello, I'm Tanya Zucco. For those of you who don't know me, I am a functional medicine practitioner and high-performance health consultant. And in my online practice, I'm really passionate about helping women look, feel, and perform their best a string of hormones, losing weight, and gaining muscle. So today, I was re-ordering some of the makeup that I use, and you might be thinking okay go on. So this for me to think about the topic of why I think about what I put on my skin. So, we're not going to obviously eat things that are toxic and that have harmful chemicals. So my topic today is why would we put that stuff on our skin.

So let me back up a little bit. So you know when I'm working with my clients online and where we're trying to figure out why they have this stubborn weight that they can't get rid of. Why are they have these hormone imbalances? Why are they having some of these nagging symptoms that they haven't been able to fix up until now? And part of the detective work of what I do is figuring out what is the cause of it. You know, because I'm not just treating symptoms, I'm treating a person. So we're looking into what is the root cause of it. It's kind of like the domino theory that I talked about the other day is if we can fix what's going on upstream, it's going to significantly impact and benefit what is going on downstream, and vice versa right. So we also know, it's kind of an established theory, that we know the inflammation really is the root, at the root of all disease in some shape or form. All disease, as you know, all these different things that we struggle with, and then the question is, well, okay, so what causes this inflammation that a lot of us have in our body.

Well, it can be different things, okay, but oftentimes, it's toxins, right. It's impurities. It's foreign substances that our body is trying to eliminate and get rid of. I mean, our bodies are every day just getting rid of toxins. Some of these toxins just happened from living and breathing right and exercising. And our body just has to eliminate these things. And a lot of these toxins, though, are things that we intentionally or not intentionally put into our bodies, okay.

So this brings me to why you know we wouldn't again eat substances that are foods, that we know have carcinogens and which are things that can cause cancer. We wouldn't intentionally eat stuff that we know who has harmful chemicals in it, right. We wouldn't do it right because we know it's not good for us, and it's gonna have an impact. And so again, the question is, why are we putting this stuff on your body? Because let me tell you we are, we are. And if you are not convinced that the stuff we put on our skin. Is absorbed into your body, think about the topical medications that we prescribe, like hormones, is something I do all the time is prescribed hormones. And like we know that topical estrogen raises systemic estrogen levels, right. It's a treatment, and so you better believe that these things that you're putting on your skin are being absorbed systemically into your body.

And did you know that the European Union has banned 1400 chemicals from personal care products? 1400! Yet here in the states, we're still lathering that stuff all over our body, right. With all these different things that we use. Putting toxins into our body, creating more inflammation, and it's having an effect, it is.

So you might be thinking, okay, well, really? Is it really having an effect on these things that I'm dealing with? Like is this really a big deal? Well, on average, we, women, use 12 to 14 products every day on our bodies, hair skin, or whatever. And we are absorbing approximately 160 to 180 different substances that are potentially many known harmful substances on our skin being absorbed into our body.

So anyway, I just wanted to give you guys some food for thought. You know, all these different things that we do, add up, and these are things that we can really do upstream to help mitigate and really make a big difference with what's going on downstream. It's not that difficult to change what you're putting on your body. It's just an intentional change. So just wanted to give you guys some food for thought and thank you again for listening.

If you think this could help someone, would love it if you would share it with them. If you have any questions for me, always please reach out. I'd love to chat and get to know you. And I'll catch you guys on the flip side. Have a good day, Saturday.Have a great weekend.
