Hormone Crosstalk. What is it and why should I care?!

VIDEO TRANSCRIPT

What's up, everybody?

Did that start a bit late? Hey, what's up, everyone? Happy New Year, Happy New Year. Can't believe it's 2022—super excited to make this an amazing year. And I really hope you all are too. So thanks for tuning in. My name is Tanya Zucco. I am a functional medicine practitioner and hormone expert. And what I do is help women 40 Plus look, feel and perform their best by optimizing their health and their hormones.

And today's topic comes from a recent new client of mine, the topic of hormone crosstalk, and we'll talk about what that is in a minute. So client came to me, or who someone who's now a client, came to me because she had a previously diagnosed condition of hypothyroidism, which, classically, we all know, causes weight gain and fatigue, and brain fog, amongst other things.

So she came to me she'd been diagnosed, you know, a couple of years ago, and she said, Hey, Tanya, you know, I've been working with my conventional doctor, I'm being treated for this condition. I'm being told my levels are fine now. And yet, I'm still having the symptoms that initially caused me to go to seek help, which was brain fog, fatigue, and weight gain, and inability to lose weight.

And so that brought me to talk about this topic. So you know, food choices, environment, attitude, aging, stress, even the chemicals that we put in and on our body can affect our hormone levels. But another really important influence is how our hormones interact together.

So let's take another story, is I have a client who her problem was high cortisol. And what was happening is that high cortisol then blocked the thyroid function, which is really the queen of metabolism, that high cortisol was also blocking progesterone, okay, the activity of progesterone, which, for us, women is the main anti-bloating hormone. And the soothing hormone soothes. Our brain makes us feel calm, focused and helps us sleep well. And so what was happening is that the root cause of cortisone was affecting everything downstream, including her thyroid and progesterone, amongst other things.

And so, as you can see, it's really important to treat and adjust multiple hormones at the same time, the adrenals, the thyroid, and the sex hormones, to really achieve those optimal results. See, many of these root causes, such as the cortisol, in this case of my thyroid patients, are not looked at in mainstream medicine. And really, these hormonal problems are the hormonal problems and how they interact together is really the root cause.

And the reason why so many women don't have their symptoms go away, like they hope they do, okay, when they're sort of spot treated like this, and really, you know, hormones are the top reason for accelerated aging as well. Okay? What happens with accelerated aging is when the hormones that build muscle and bone decline faster than the hormones that break down tissues for energy. Okay, and what happens is, then our cells experience more wear and tear, we have more breakdown in proportion to the repair. Okay, so that was kind of a side note.

Let's go back to that thyroid problem. So the reason this client wasn't having any relief of her symptoms, right, even though she was supposedly being treated, is because there was still root cause issues going on causing the thyroid to still be dysregulated. And for the hormone not to be actively used correctly. Okay. In addition to other things, you know, oftentimes, weight gain and fatigue and these issues that we experience, as we're in our 40s and above, are an indication that there is a dysregulation going on, it's usually not because of one simple thing. Okay. So as you can see clearly, it's important to optimize your body's hormones, not just individually but in relation to each other. If you really want to see the optimal results that I know you guys are looking for. And you know, the reason that a lot of clients come to work with me.

So hopefully, this is helpful for you. If you are someone that is struggling with something like my client, my thyroid client was, please do reach out. I'd be happy to talk to you. If you think this would be helpful for someone to hear, please do share.

Again, thank you for tuning in. Happy New Year, and I will catch you guys on the flip side. Happy Monday!
