Hormonal imbalance & Estrogen dominance

VIDEO TRANSCRIPT

Hey everyone, it's Tanya Zucco here. I am a functional medicine practitioner in high-performance health consultant. And I am passionate about helping women look, feel, and perform their best by mastering the hormones, losing fat, and gaining muscle.

So, a lot of what I do and talk about is obviously hormones. And when I'm talking about hormones, I don't just mean estrogen and progesterone. And obviously those are big key players when it comes to you know, women's health, especially as you're in the, in that sort of forties age range and above.

Okay, we deal with a lot of changes, but also when I'm talking about hormones. I'm also talking about thyroid and cortisol, and leptin and ghrelin and insulin okay. All these hormones play together. They all play together in the same sandbox, so you really can't isolate one from the other. But everyone can experience different hormone disruptions as a cause of certain symptoms that they're having, or inability to lose weight, for example. Not everybody does have a hormone imbalance, but a lot of the times, if you are, you know 45 and you're doing all the right things. I just picked that age. You're 40 plus. You're doing all the right things. You think you eat this really good diet. You're exercising. You're getting, you know, as much sleep as you can because I know you're busy navigating your busy life.

And you're told everything is normal. And yet, it's like what's going on? Is it just part of aging? Oftentimes it's not, again getting back to, oftentimes, there's some sort of chemical hormone imbalance going on, so that's where my detective work comes in. We look to figure out, is that indeed the case? If it is, what exactly is your particular situation, and what are we gonna do about it?

There's different things we can do, that we do. Again when I'm working with clients, I'm always looking at the client. We're not just trying to treat symptoms, so we're digging deep. We're trying to find out what is the root cause. Are there nutritional factors that we can change? Probably so. Lifestyle factors, probably so. Supplementation and natural remedies, probably so. And then if it does come to the need for, you know, natural hormone replacement therapy, that's an option too.

So, let's talk about one potential imbalance that we're seeing and hearing a lot about here lately. And if you've been doing any sort of googling, I'm sure this has come up for you. If you know, if you're someone struggling with stubborn weight loss, for example, hormone imbalance. The term estrogen dominance has definitely come up in your searches. And you might be thinking okay, well what the heck is it all right, so essentially, estrogen dominance is where there is an imbalance in the ratios of estrogen and progesterone okay. Now, it's very common, and it's even more common in this day and age because we can actually get.

We can breathe and put on our bodies and eat different chemicals and substances that are what we call endocrine-disrupting chemicals that essentially mimic estrogen, right. So they give us the sort of, I mean, I don't want to say false increase, but they give us this increase in estrogen, and this can happen at any age, right. If you are not, you know, careful with what you're doing with regards to, you know. The way you live and eat and breathe, you know.

And again, sometimes it's hard with this, with this world we live in and like I said, so this can happen at all ages. So now we're seeing this estrogen dominance at all ages. We also see estrogen dominance commonly in the sort of peri-menopause age, which by the way, Peri-menopause can start in your late thirties, okay. So if you're dealing with certain symptoms and you're thinking, I'm only like 39 or 42. Why am I even talking about hormones? Cause it could be a factor for you, okay.

So let me back up just a quick second, so what are some symptoms of estrogen dominance before I go on? So a couple of common symptoms are fatigue, mood swings, inability to lose weight, low libido, headache, and insomnia. So those are, those are really life-disrupting symptoms that need to be looked into. So okay, going back to the estrogen dominance, right. So again, you can create this estrogen dominance by, you know, just because the crazy world we live in and the toxic things in our environment that we eat, a lot of them are in our bodies and breathe.

And then going back to what I was saying is peri-menopause. What happens there? It's not that the ovaries are pumping out a bunch of estrogen. It's not the case obviously in peri-menopause. What happens is your progesterone drops, or in menopause, your progesterone drops. And estrogen drops at a lower rate than progesterone does, so we see again this estrogen dominance.

So, why do we see these symptoms with estrogen dominance? Well, I'll talk more in future videos about the importance and what these different hormones do, but again, they all play in the sandbox together. And so, even though estrogen is really great for a lot of things, if there isn't a balance with progesterone to kind of keep it in check, is what we're going to start to see all of these symptoms happen. Okay?

So if you are experiencing any of these symptoms, and again you're someone who has been told everything is normal and you're doing all the right things, I definitely want to encourage you to not settle. To look into it, speak with somebody about getting some hormone testing to find out you know really where you stand and what you can potentially do about it.

So anyway, thank you guys so much for listening. I really appreciate it. I know I'm new to doing all these live videos, but I'm really excited to be getting on here. And would love any feedback. Would love to answer any questions that you might have, and if you think this would be helpful for anyone, definitely please share it.

My passion in life is to really empower women to be their absolute best. To really do everything that they can to, you know, be and look and feel their best. So thanks again for listening, and I will catch you guys on the flip side.
